This program annually highlights some of the best examples of structural engineering ingenuity throughout the world. Both structural engineers and structural engineering firms are encouraged to enter the awards program.
DEADLINE: Friday, July 17, 2026
ENTRY FEE:
- The entry fee is $500 and must be paid online.
- Firms with 20 or fewer employees (across all locations) are eligible for a $100 discount.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Entries must include the name of a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Structural Engineer (S.E.) whose practice or activity is primarily in the field of structural engineering.
- Projects must have been completed by July 17th, 2026 and within the last 10 years, or must be sufficiently complete such that they clearly show the basic design of the structural system. The submittals will be judged based on the quality of the structural design portion of the project. Within the context of this awards program, design refers to the overall concept of any structure or structural system within a project. New projects, renovations, rehabilitation, structural upgrades and adaptive reuse of buildings, special use structures, and bridges are eligible. Projects may be located anywhere in the world.
- Multiple entries from the same firm will be accepted, but a firm may only receive one award from each category.
- Projects that have been submitted in previous years and did not win an award may be entered into the current year's program.
JURY OF AWARDS:
The selection of award recipients will be made by a distinguished Jury of Awards. There will be a minimum of 10 judges. All judges will be structural engineers licensed as P.E.’s or S.E.’s.
JUDGING CRITERIA:
- Complexity of criteria or unique problems relative to the specific category (25%)
- Creativity of structural design relative to the specific category (25%)
- Innovative application of new or existing materials or techniques (25%)
- Ingenuity of design for constructability challenges and efficient use of materials or labor (25%)
WINNER INFORMATION:
Once the judging is complete, the winners of the top projects in each category will be required to provide NCSEA with the following items:
- Content for NCSEA to produce signage posters for each project, including copy and photos.
- Credits that must be noted for all photographs.
- Names of people who will represent the project at the awards event.
- Project winners will be invited to speak at the Awards Webinar Series in the following year.
The awards will be presented at the NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit in October 27-30, 2026 at Hilton Union Square in San Francisco, CA.
Please check out NCSEA’s 2026 SEE Awards FAQ Page for more details.
The NCSEA Structural Engineering Continuing Education Committee is seeking presentations for the Webinar program. Ideal presentations are between 60 and 90 minutes and deliver pertinent and useful information that is specific to the practicing structural engineer, in both technical and non-technical tracks. Sessions are 60-90 minutes total, including time for Q & A. Submissions on best-design practices, new codes and standards, recent projects, advanced analysis techniques, management, business practices, and other topics that would be of interest to practicing structural engineers, are desired. Other desired topics include:
Engineering Topics
- New codes and standards
- Loads - Dead, Live, Snow, Wind, Seismic, Ice, Tornado, etc.
- Material Design - Steel, Concrete, Masonry, Wood, etc.
- Best-design practices - project management, quality control, etc.
- Recent projects
- Advanced Analysis techniques
- Case Studies
- Lessons Learned
Business Practice Topics
- Management
- Contracts
- Training
- Ethics
- Bettering Communication
- Accounting
- Client Growth
Speakers will be provided with required guidelines after acceptance of abstract.
STRUCTURE magazine welcomes new and returning authors to submit their articles.
Articles must be of interest as information to the reader. In general, it is important to write articles that are informative, timely, and practical to structural engineers. We remind authors that STRUCTURE magazine is not a reference journal. As such, lengthy and detailed “papers” will not be accepted.
Appropriate content for STRUCTURE magazine includes technical, project, materials, trends, and forum articles, as well as explanations of codes and standards; they should be original and not previously published or concurrently submitted elsewhere.
No articles are guaranteed publication; all articles are subject to the same scrutiny before acceptance, regardless of the source.
The NCSEA Grant Program was developed to assist Member Organizations (SEAs) in growing their Associations and promoting the structural engineering field through innovative initiatives. The Grant Program is just one of many efforts supported by the NCSEA Foundation, which funds initiatives that focus on:
- Innovation: Investing in technology, services, and resources that advance the profession.
- Advocacy: Growing awareness of the profession and its contributions to society while supporting SEAs in enhancing their local communities.
- People: Ensuring the future profession is supportive and inclusive of all.
Eligibility
Any Structural Engineers Association (SEA) or individual member(s) of an SEA may apply for a grant. All applications must be reviewed and approved by the applicant's local SEA leadership before submission.
Proposed initiatives must directly benefit and support the applicant's SEA and align with its mission and objectives. Projects that primarily support external organizations or initiatives unrelated to the SEA are not eligible for funding.
Once SEA approval has been obtained, applications must be submitted through Submittable for consideration by the NCSEA Foundation.
Criteria
A grant request may be submitted for any program that is consistent with the NCSEA Foundation Mission and Vision. Please note: The NCSEA Foundation will not consider requests for:
- Political contributions or lobbying expenses
- Operational support for SEAs (e.g., new computers, staffing costs, bill payments, insurance coverage)
Evaluation Process
A subcommittee of the NCSEA Foundation Board will serve as the evaluation committee for the grant applications. Once the winning grants are selected by the subcommittee, they must be reviewed and approved by the NCSEA Foundation Board of Directors. In addition to the above information, several key factors will be evaluated with every grant application:
- Does the program support one or more of the Foundation’s pillars: People, Advocacy, or Innovation?
- How will the grant request advance the practice of structural engineering or strengthen your SEA?
- What is the potential impact of the program on the structural engineering profession or public awareness?
Grant recipients will be contacted directly by a member of the subcommittee.
Finally, please read and agree to the "terms of use" statement, found at the end of this application, regarding the "Knowledge Transfer" requirements, when a grant is awarded.
