Enter for a Chance to Win!

Do you dream of sharing a favorite project with the world? Or of explaining the AMAZING things Structural Engineers provide? Now’s your chance!

As part of the “We SEE Above and Beyond” campaign, NCSEA is holding a contest, and it is open to everyone! We’re looking for Structural Engineers to create videos to talk about the difference between what everyday people see and what Structural Engineers SEE.

SEE stands for “Structural Engineering Excellence.”

The goal of "You See. We SEE." is to reveal the untold story concealed behind the façade, exploring the intricate blend of art and science inherent in built structures and igniting enthusiasm for the field of structural engineering.

What do I win?

By submitting your video and filling out the form below, you will be automatically entered to win one of three $500 gift cards or the grand prize: $500 plus a 2024 NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit registration, including a travel voucher and 3 hotel nights!

$545.00

This program annually highlights some of the best examples of structural engineering ingenuity throughout the world. Both structural engineers and structural engineering firms are encouraged to enter the awards program.

DEADLINE: Monday, June 17, 2024

ENTRY FEE:
The entry fee is $545 and must be paid online.

ELIGIBILITY:
Entry must be submitted by a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Structural Engineer (S.E.) whose practice or activity is primarily in the field of structural engineering. Projects must have been completed between January 1, 2021 and May 31, 2024, or must be sufficiently complete such that they clearly show the basic design of the structural system. The submittals will be judged based on the quality of the structural “design” portion of the project. Within the context of this awards program, “design” refers to the overall concept of any structure or structural system within a project. New projects, renovations, rehabilitation, structural upgrades and adaptive reuse of buildings, special use structures, and bridges are eligible. Projects may be located anywhere in the world. Multiple entries from the same firm will be accepted. Projects that have been submitted in previous years may be entered in the current year's program.

JURY OF AWARDS:
The selection of award recipients will be made by a distinguished Jury of Awards. There will be a minimum of five jurors. All jurors shall be structural engineers licensed as P.E.’s or S.E.’s.

  • Complexity of criteria or unique problems (20%)
  • Creativity of structural design (20%)
  • Innovative application of new or existing materials or techniques (20%)
  • Commitment to sustainability through efficient use of materials, resilience, circular economy principles, or embodied carbon reduction (20%)
  • Ingenuity of design for constructability challenges and efficient use of labor (20%)

(The manner in which the above criteria applies to each entry should be described in the submitted documentation.)

Once the judging is complete, the winners of the top projects in each category will be required to provide NCSEA with the following items:

The winners in each category will be required to provide NCSEA with the following items:

  • One poster (30”x 40”) for display at the 2024 NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit.

Outstanding projects will be featured in a future issue of STRUCTURE magazine, a video presentation on the NCSEA website and invited to speak at the Awards Webinar Series the following year.
The awards will be presented at the NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit in November 2024 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV.

More information about the SEE Awards program is available here.

The NCSEA Special Awards are presented at the NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit to members who have provided outstanding service and commitment to the association and to the structural engineering profession.

The deadline for nominations is June 17, 2024.

NCSEA Service Award

This award is presented to an individual who has worked for the betterment of NCSEA, Member Organizations and the profession, to a degree that is beyond the norm of volunteerism. It is given to someone who has made a clear contribution to the organization and therefore to the profession.
Nominees can be submitted by any SEA Member. NCSEA Board members are not eligible.

Robert Cornforth Award

This award is presented to an individual for exceptional dedication and exemplary service to a Member Organization and to the profession. The award is named for Robert Cornforth, a founding member of NCSEA and treasurer on its first Board of Directors, and a member of OSEA.
Nominations can only be submitted by SEA Leadership (any Delegate, President, Executive Director, or someone acting on behalf of the organization as a whole.) NCSEA Board members are not eligible.

Susan M. Frey NCSEA Educator Award

The Susan M. Frey NCSEA Educator Award is presented to an individual who has a genuine interest in, and extraordinary talent for, effective instruction of practicing structural engineers. The award was established to honor the memory of Sue Frey, one of NCSEA's finest educators.

Susan A. Jorgensen Presidential Leadership Award

The Susan A. Jorgensen Presidential Leadership Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership potential through their activities within NCSEA and/or their SEA (even if they did not serve in a formal leadership role). The award is bestowed on candidates who embody Susan’s passion, vision, and legacy of leadership in at least one of the following:

  • mentorship and support for younger engineers, women engineers and/or underrepresented engineers;
  • demonstrated leadership skills and/or visionary leadership in a particular initiative such as SE licensure;
  • active engagement at multiple levels within the profession, whether formal or informal.

This award was created to honor the late NCSEA Board President and advocate for the profession, Susan A. Jorgensen, who passed away in November 2020. Its intention is to award increased participation of emerging leaders and encourage recipients to engage (or continue to engage) in formal leadership. In addition to free registration to the NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit, the recipient of this award will be granted a $1,000 travel stipend. During the Summit, there will be a dedicated time scheduled for the recipient to meet and interact with current NCSEA leadership, ideally providing the opportunity to discuss future leadership roles within NCSEA or within the recipient’s SEA.
Nominations can be submitted by any SEA Member.
Special Award recipients will receive complimentary tickets to the Awards Celebration
